Area of Reflection. 

Work has begun on the Area of Reflection on land adjacent to Heatherwood roundabout in Ascot – kindly gifted to The War Horse Memorial CIC by Ascot Racecourse Authority.

The gesture is both generous and fitting. Some of the horses that went to battle came from racing stables, the most famous being Warrior. He was bred on the Isle of Wight by Jack Seely and taken to France in August 1914 and was ridden by Seely, Commander of the Canadian Cavalry, throughout the entire duration of the War. Despite unimaginable conditions and hardships he survived and came home.

When completed the Area of Reflection will include two smart wooden seats and two large storyboards which will explain the service and sacrifice of millions of UK, Allied and Commonwealth horses, mules and donkeys in the First World War, thank our supporters and tell the story of how our beautiful bronze monument came to be.
