Mansion House presentation, Cardiff.

Today ( Tuesday, March 27, 2018) we were welcomed to Wales by The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor Bob Derbyshire and the Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan, Mrs Morfudd Meredith who accepted a bronze horseshoe on behalf of the people of Wales to signify the service and sacrifice made by thousands of Welsh horses in the First World War.

The link with the four countries of the UK is extremely important to the success of the project. Our giant bronze horse has purposely been sculptured without her horseshoes, and the other three will be presented to Edinburgh, Belfast and London over the coming weeks. Cllr Derbyshire said: “I am honoured to accept the War Horse bronze horseshoe on behalf of the people of Wales. The commemorative horseshoe will be a fitting tribute to the Welsh horses that served in the Great War and will act as a lasting reminder to the people of Wales how equine service and sacrifice secured our freedom.” Also at the Mansion House, in Cardiff to witness the symbolic gesture were Boyd Clack, Kirsten Jones and Rogiero Verma of the Royal Commonwealth Society of Wales, Councillors Dianne Rees and Joe Boyle and Dave Gerrard and 15-year old Harrison Griffiths off The Lord Mayor’s Own Scout Troup.
